ABOUT JUDE WILLIAMS
Jude was born in Adelong and lived in several country towns in rural NSW. The memories of these early experiences have played a vital role in her art career.
She has lived in Sydney for most of her adult life working as a teacher. In 2018 she completed a Visual Art Degree with Honours at Sydney University,
Jude finds inspiration in the everyday, channelling her observations into photography, video, painting, drawing, and sculpture.
Her work speaks to ideas of image, surface, genres of painting and coming home, but not to home in the nostalgic sense as her practice goes far beyond.
She is addressing lived time, present and past, in the everyday as a tapestry like embodiment. The surfaces are thickly textured, blurring the image and often leaving them forever in perpetual motion, unfinished. The painted layers have become extremely important to her, and the final works are transformations.
Jude has been shortlisted in numerous art prizes, including the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award, the Paddington Art Prize, the Greenway Art Prize and the Mosman Art Prize in Sydney. Also the Mudgee Inaugeral Portrait Prize and the Still: National Still Life award in Coffs Harbour. She has been exhibiting yearly since leaving university, both solo and in group shows.
