how does tiliqua tiliqua work?

Tiliqua Tiliqua is a small, elegant but friendly exhibition space established in 2022 by Felix Oppen and Kate Riley.

We are an Artist Run Initiative (or ARI if you are into acronyms). This means we are artists ourselves, not professional gallerists. We are here for anyone wanting to use our space to exhibit their artwork, launch their album/typeface/book, run a workshop or for any other creative endeavour*.

We don’t take any commission on sales, just a flat fee for using the gallery. This does mean that anyone using the space is responsible for looking after it, in other words you need to organise someone to be in the gallery while it is open to the public. You will also need to arrange for the taking of payments for artwork sales. We do offer support and assistance with most aspects of using the space.

how much does it cost to hire the space?

From 2027 onward preference will be given to two week (or longer) shows. The fee for a two week show is $1,840 for a period that runs from Tuesday morning to midday of the second following Monday.

A limited number of single week hires will be made available after all the two (or more) week bookings have been allocated. The single week fee will be $970.

how do i hire the exhibition space at tiliqua tiliqua?

We have changed how we are organising the hire of our space, so please read on even if you have exhibited with us before. (This information assumes you want to hold an exhibition with us, but it is roughly the same process for any event/happening/etc you want the space for.)

1. The first step is to fill in the Expression of Interest (EOI) form. The EOIs are currently be revised and will be made available soon..
2. We will contact you if we need any further information, or if we want to come and see your work in person.

We don’t want this to be a painful process for you! You just need to tell us a little about your practice and your work, and how we can see more (such as on instagram or a website), and give us a rough idea of what you would like to do with the space. Then you can get back to making your art.

But do have a think about what else you might want to do in conjunction with an exhibition. Don’t worry if you don’t, it won’t change our opinion of you! But we are interested in ways to increase people’s interactions with our space. Is there a workshop or class you would like to run? (If you want to use our print studio for a workshop that will include an extra charge.) Would you like to hold an artist talk?
