ABOUT THE ARTISTS
This is the first time that we; Yuri, Annarie and Sabina have exhibited together.
We met a number of years ago through our separate interest and practice of printmaking, while we were members of the Open Studio Printmaking course at Meadowbank TAFE.
Yuri is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses painting, printmaking and sculpture. She has exhibited her prints widely. She has painted for many years, studying at the Julian Ashton Art School. Her talent as a painter was recognised as a finalist at many prestigious art prizes, notably when she was chosen as a finalist in the 2020 Archibald prize. She has recently added sculpture to her artistic accomplishments.
Annarie Hildebrand is a Sydney based ceramic artist and printmaker. Her art is an exploration of geometric shapes and forms and the shadows cast by objects, expressed through the mediums of clay and print. She is continuously exploring ways to merge these two and cross pollinate ideates to create a cohesive body of work. She draws inspiration from architectural forms, and the natural world.
The interplay of shapes and shadows is her visual language, where they playfully dance together. Ultimately , her art is a reflection of an inner world, a visual manifestation of thoughts and ideas.
Sabina is a Sydney based printmaker, who continues to expand her techniques in printmaking. Sabina creates compositions with a variety of line, texture and colour, stencils, with many types of plates also known as matrices. These include zinc, copper, aluminium, lino and high-impact plastic, while exploring the variety and surprising results these different surfaces bring alone or as multi plate prints.
The compositions that she creates are inspired by the world around her. These include the fluid lines of figures, the sillhouettes and shapes of the Australian landscapes, or everyday items or activities with their own intrinsic shapes and interest. Sabina invites the viewer to take a fresh look at the everyday.
Sabina was a resident artist of the Art Gallery on Darling in Balmain for many years and exhibited there as well as exhibiting at various art prizes and exhibitions.
