ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Heather, Patricia and Tom are three Australian artists and printmakers who have connected through Tiliqua Tiliqua. Their works come together form across the country- Canberra, Melbourne and Perth (Ngunnawal (Ngunawal) and Ngambri, Naarm, Whadjuk), with a shared aesthetic and conversation, they discuss our built environments and the spaces we exist in.
Heather Groves uses printmaking and sculptural processes to create conversations and explore philosophical concepts through visual language. In other words, her work looks at the hidden tensions found within familiar and intimate subjects. Groves has a BVA from the Australian National University (ANU) with a major in sculpture, and a minor in book design and graphic investigation. She studied printmaking at The National School of Superior Fine Arts (ENSBA) Paris, France and most recently completed postgraduate studies in French language and culture from the ANU. Groves has worked at the National Gallery of Australia as artist-educator and has exhibited in Australia, France and the USA, her works can also be found in private collections in Australia, Europe and the USA.
Patricia Agus (they/them) is a non-binary Naarm-based artist-curator working in the field of contemporary printmaking. They challenge the boundaries of printmaking through presentation and experimental techniques. Graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in 2021, specialising in Drawing and Printmaking, and later completed a Master of Art Curatorship at the University of Melbourne. Agus merges printmaking with another medium, often sculpture. Their practice explores the experience of navigating between two cultures, balancing dual identities, and imagining alternate versions of self. Agus experiments with hybrid forms of printmaking and sculpture, which pushes the boundaries of traditional printmaking, prompting questions about its definition, stretching its limits before it becomes something else entirely. This hybrid approach is central to their storytelling. It invites viewers to engage the narrative from multiple perspectives, allowing for dynamic and personal interactions with each piece.
Tom Simmo is an Australian emerging artist & craftsman who currently lives and works in Melbourne on Wurundjeri-willam land. Originally from Gadigal land in Sydney, they are currently working as an Apprentice Printmaker at Australian Print Workshop. They finished up a BFA at NAS in 2023 and have a background in heritage woodworking. Their eclectic practice spans printmaking, drawing and photography but often centers on the use of repetition and abstractions of landscapes to comment on uniformity, conformity and the desire to fit in.
