BOOK HERE
Join artist and printmaker Lucy Russell to explore how low cost and ‘waste’ materials can be used as a means to transform drawings into experimental and expressive artworks.
You will learn new forms of expression through drypoint etching and collagraph techniques on recycled tetrapaks and acrylic. This workshop is designed for creative experimentation, helping you expand your image-making practice and discover a personal, expressive style.
Over the two days of the workshop you will have the opportunity to prepare and print short editions of several prints.
Open to all skill levels, including those who have never printed before.
Morning tea and materials are provided, so all you will need to bring are:
- A sketch book, pencil or something to write and draw with
- An apron (and/or wear clothes you don’t mind getting inky)
- Your lunch (however there are plenty of great cafes and a supermarket nearby)
- Your questions, eagerness and curiosity
- Optional: sketches or drawings you would like work with.
ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
Lucy Russell is a recent Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from the National Art School, majoring in printmaking, with a strong interest in creative collaboration and inclusive cultural spaces.
“I am a visual artist and printmaker based in Sydney, working with etching processes to explore texture, tone, and atmosphere. My approach to monochrome printmaking comes from an intuitive response to form, texture, and light. I like to allow the process of printing to lead the image, letting the marks, surfaces, and tonal variations find their own rhythm. Working with primarilly with etching, I explore how black can express emotion, depth, and balance.”
