ARTIST DEMONSTRATION – DIOR MAHNKEN
1.30PM SUNDAY SEPT 20
Working together, we explore the possibilities and boundaries of printmaking through our individual relationships with paper and plastic. Although our materials and processes differ, both practices are driven by experimentation, texture and a curiosity about the environment.
One artist explores paper through collagraph, monoprinting, stitching and paper pricking, creating layered and tactile surfaces that reflect natural forms, patterns and textures. The physical processes of piercing, stitching and printing become a way of connecting with and responding to the environment.
The other pushes the boundaries of monoprinting with a gel plate, incorporating magazine transfers, layering and stitching into wadded and manipulated surfaces. Plastic is explored as both material and subject, raising questions about its persistence, presence and impact on our surroundings.
Together, our work brings contrasting materials and processes into conversation. Through printing, layering, piercing, stitching and manipulation, we challenge traditional ideas of printmaking and discover new ways of creating surface and form. Our shared interest is in experimentation and transformation, allowing unexpected marks, textures and material qualities to shape the work.
The exhibition reflects two individual practices connected by a shared curiosity about materials, process and our changing environment.
